Terrorist Attack - 47 bodies found after 'massacre' in Syria

On Monday the opposition and activists said, the bodies of 47 women and children have been found in the Syrian city of Homs, where security forces have been fighting raging battles against armed rebels.
Hadi Abdallah, a Syrian activist in Homs, told AFP the bodies of 26 children and 21 women, some with their throats slit and others bearing stab wounds, were found after a " massacre" in the Karm el-Zaytoun and Al-Adawiyeh neighborhoods of the besieged central city."Some of the children had been hit with blunt objects on their head, one little girl was mutilated and some women were raped before being killed," he said.

The main opposition group, the Syrian National Council (SNC), called for an emergency UN Security Council meeting to discuss the "massacre", which it said took place on Sunday.The SNC stated that, “the Syrian National Council is making the necessary contacts with all organizations and countries that are friends with the Syrian people for the UN Security Council to hold an emergency meeting”.

And in a clear reference to Russia and China, the SNC said that allies of Syria's President Bashar al-Assad shared responsibilty for the "crimes" committed by his regime. State television blamed "armed terrorist gangs" for the killings, saying they had kidnapped residents of Homs, killed them and then made video footage of the bodies in an attempt to discredit Syrian forces.

Five tourists dead in Ethiopia terrorist attack

Gunmen in Ethiopia's north attacked a group of European tourists traveling in one of the world's lowest and hottest regions, killing five, wounding two and kidnapping two, an Ethiopian official said Wednesday. Ethiopia called the attack "an act of open terrorism" and said the gunmen came from neighboring Eritrea and attacked the tourist group before morning on Tuesday. Three Ethiopians were also taken hostage. Eritrea denied it was involved.

Ethiopian Communications Minister Bereket Simon said,”Austrian, Belgian, German, Hungarian and Italian nationals were among those in the tourist group”. Two Germans, two Hungarians and an Austrian were among the five killed, according to an Interpol report cited by the spokesman for Hungary's prime minister.
Two Belgians were seriously hurt and two Italians escaped unharmed, the report said. Two Germans were kidnapped.Austria's foreign ministry confirmed that an Austrian man from the province of Upper Austria was among the five dead. Germany's foreign minister also confirmed two German deaths, news agency dapd reported.Those wounded in the attack arrived in Addis Ababa Wednesday evening, where they were met by embassy personnel. A British diplomat at the airport said it was possible one British tourist was among the group attacked.

NAM condemns terror attack against Iranian scientist

On Thursday Iranian Permanent Representative to United Nations Mohammad Khazaee said that member states of Non-Aligned Movement have condemned terror attack on Iranian scientist and violation of Iran's airspace by the US stealth observation aircraft.

“NAM members states supported Iran’s two proposals to condemn terror attack on Iranian Physics professor and violation of Iran airspace by US spy drone, “ Khazaee told IRNA on the sidelines of NAM first meeting in 2012 at UN.

“NAM representatives to United Nations accepted the two plans made by the Islamic Republic of Iran and will finally issue a statement to condemn the assassination and stealth drone spying as two terrorist actions against Iran,' he said.Khazaee said that it is crystal clear that certain terrorist groups with the help of Zionists and other foreign governments and organizations are behind such terrorist operations.
“Despite all kinds of political and economic pressures and terrorist attacks targeting the Iranian nuclear scientists, the enemies could not prevent our nation from exercising its right to produce nuclear energy which is completely for peaceful purpose,“ Khazaee added.'We are confident that such blind terrorist operations will not stop Iranians from defending their legitimate rights enshrined by Non-Proliferation Treaty. The Islamic Republic of Iran reserves the right to take legal action with the internal and international courts against state terrorism exercised by the hostile regimes.'

Swedish Journalists sentenced to 11 years prison for supporting terrorism

Two Swedish reporters were sentenced to 11 years of prison for supporting terrorism. A court in Ethiopia on Tuesday sentenced two Swedish journalists to 11 years in prison on charges of supporting terrorism after the two illegally entered the country with an ethnic Somali rebel group in a case that has been criticized by media rights groups.

Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye were the two Swedish journalists who supported terrorism. Judge Shemsu Sirgaga ruled that the two freelance journalists — Johan Persson and Martin Schibbye — will serve “rigorous imprisonment” following their convictions last week.Ethiopian troops had captured Persson and Schibbye six months ago during a clash with rebels in eastern Ethiopia’s restive Somali region, a no-go area for reporters. Ethiopia considers the rebel group a terrorist organization, and it is very difficult for journalists to gain access to the region. Rights groups say that is so abuses there are not exposed.

The international community has closely followed the terror trial against the Swedes. Rights groups and diplomats say Ethiopia’s anti-terrorism proclamation restricts freedom of expression and is used as a tool to crack down on dissent.
